Ehhh, I didn't like Chrome. It seemed like such a budget first-person shooter. Terrible voice acting and animations, and certainly not a story-line that could compete with Halo. The scenery was alright but nothing special, not when you've seen a game like Far Cry render scenery as good as it does. I feel the same about this game as I do Breed. The only decent thing these German/European game developers have produced is good electronic music, which is understandable since they pioneered it =]

I hated Chrome and Chaser. I think Halo is way better than both.

That's a hell of a bias you got there skip. I disagree with you big time. Chrome just plays with too much lag or I would probably buy it. Chaser just plain rocked. The Longest Journey is a classic. Bloodrayne rocks. Breed looks to be a very good game, played the demo and liked it a lot, I will definitely buy it when it comes out (jeez, it's pushed back to February right now). I think a lot of good games are made overseas. Bring em on, we need all the games we can get, there just isn't enough of them for my tastes.

But hey this is the way it is with games, "one will like it, and another will hate it".

Chrome is Polish. I think.
It's not your average shooter, It's more tactical. Kinda heavy but way better than Halo (the gamespeed, not quality. I liked both)

Well I was actually only referring to those 2 games, not European games in general, perhaps I should have been more clear =]

Ok, I found something redeeming about Halo that made me play for 2 hours last night. The map called Death Island. The reason being, I discovered all the delights of vehicles and aircraft in this game. They are a LOT of fun too use, and made the game about 10x better. Of course they probably copied the idea from Tribes, and I know UT2K4 is gonna have vehicles and aircraft which I'll probably love even more... but hey at least I'm getting some use out of Halo online now.

Man, take a look at the vehicles for Unreal Tournament 2k4... the pics that I saw were OBVIOUS rips on Halo's vehicle design. Epic better change the designs around a bit - M$ can be vengeful.

Default HALO performance

Have a look at this tuning guide for HALO. TT Gamer HALO tuning Guide

I found that my FPS rate went up from a dismal 30fps to 55fps by turning off Specular

Quote:
Specular: if this option is unavailable to you, then it means your graphics card does not support this advanced lighting technique. Specular lighting is also referred to as "Dynamic Glow" in other games and in Halo the most noticeable effect this feature provides is the way metallic surfaces have a reflective sheen which reacts to lighting and movement. It can look quite good, but provides a massive performance hit in many cases.

Is this not what I have said all along? Frankly I think specular looks pretty bad in this game. Stuff looks more "realistic" with it off.

I like the specular feature but I agree it isn't worth a 25% performance hit. Turning off shadows also helps but I have yet to bother with that.

What I found is that by disabling Specular I don't have to use the -use11 command line switch and get degraded IQ.

If you were already saying that disabling specular was the biggest "bang for the buck" then I agree with you 100%. I didn't notice any major loss in IQ, and in the Covenant ship I got respectable frame rates (>30fps) where before it was in the teens. (OUCH!)

The link I included is a pretty good tuning guide for HALO and it might help others with more iron than I have
