ok, anoher update, I played some multiplayer on my friend's server for awhile... DAMN! This game is so frigin BORING compared to Unreal Tournament and UT2K3. I mean they leave this game in the dust. UT and UT2K3 have ten times faster game play. I really like the Halo single player so far though, the style kind of reminds me of Alien VS Predator 2, and I loved that game. But as for the Multiplayer... bleh

It even runs decent on a GF2ti/SDRAM 1.4ghz system @ 8x6, options all on medium (driver settings too)...

Yah I know, the DX7 code path is *of course* uglier, but hey, it's runnin decent on a system that's on the lower end of the low end right now...

Dang, time flies...

...

I'm off to test it on a GF3ti based DDR system...

Runs fine on my GeForce 3. Only thing I pissed off about is that i'm missing a few pixel shader effects because Xbox has better pixel shading power then a normal GeForce 3. I'm missnig the bumpmapped reflections and the active camo effect (active camo is supposed to distort the image, mine just turns translucent).

I did the disable mouse acceleration thing and it works absolutely perfectly. Control is so much more responsive. I hope Gearbox will implement this fix in an upcoming patch because it's annoying to have to type it in every time I play.

I also might have partially figured out some of my performance woes. I don't think RivaTuner was overclocking my video card properly. It showed 350/310, but when I installed Rage3D Tweak it reported the default speed of 276/270. I fixed it in R3D Tweak and there is definitely an improvement. Very smooth now at 1024x768, 2xAA, 8x performance aniso. When I come get back in town on Sunday, I'm going to try again to run the game at 1280x1024, only because that's my display's native res.

Also, am I the only one bothered by the specular effects in this game? I swear with it enabled, specular is being done on like every single texture and it looks really stupid, especially on buildings. I played with it enabled and disabled and even on Covenant items it still looks better disabled. I think I might have mentioned this before, but I'd like to know what you all think.

So do I - the problem that Sat was referring to was that mouse acceleration was enabled in the game by default. This causes the mouse to act differently than you expect it to, by lagging and then accelerating to meet the target. The posted fix shows you how to shut it off.

I love this game. I am disappointed with the tech bugs that everyone's complaining about, but those should be handled in upcoming patches. There's nothing like zipping along a battlefield in a vehicle (pick one! any vehicle!) and blowing the Covenant to pieces. Smart little buggers they are, too.

This was another point I wanted to address. The Covenant come in two flavors: 1) couldn't hit the broad side of a barn and 2) are able to hit you crouched behind a rock at 150 meters. I haven't gotten to the Flood yet, but I sure as hell hope they ain't like the latter.

Well, I've noticed that the Grunts couldn't shoot themselves if they tried, but the ones carrying the energy shields and the Elites are very good shots. The Hunters not so much, but they don't have to be; they've got the fuel rod gun.

But yeah, that basically breaks down into the two catagories you mentioned. Is it different on the X-box?

Nope the flood are worse. They err... flood you with huge numbers and smack you around like a red headed step child.

To anybody that hasn't played the Xbox version, you'll be wanting to break something when you get to The Library.
