i just downloaded the linux display driver for the nVidia GeForce 4 onto a cd rom.
I have looked that the instructions for installing it but it assumes that I am able to get a picture(i think) in order to do the install from a command prompt. To top it off I have to get to get around GRUB (my boot loader) I have to use the RED HAT 9 cds and try an boot via rescue. So I am not sure how I write the driver off of the disk from this prompt and then install it. I think that this will solve my 2 day long problem with my monitor. My System: AMD Atholon 2200+ ASUS A7V333 Mother board LG Flattron 782e nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 Appreciate the help!!! Jasp |

I had my system partitioned and configured to dual boot in Windows XP Pro and Red Hat Linux 9.0. When I picked it up in the shop on Friday it was working fine (using their monitor).
Got it home and when I try to boot into Linux from GRUB (boot loader) my monitor blacks out, sleepie mode. While attempting to investigate the problem I discovered that I probably needed the Linux Driver for nVidia (which I have on a CD rom) I think I have found a way to get to the command prompt via booting Linux in Rescue mode where I can imput rpm ... But, I guess that I am not sure what that is doing, really. I think I need to get the Driver for nVidia off of the cd rom and on to my system and then from the command prompt insert all the code but I am lost as to how to do that. In fact I don't even know which partition my Linux is assigned to for sure. Help Jasp |

no the nvidia driver is nothing to do with your problem so it seems.
I think you need to disable the framebuffer in your grub.conf a video mode should be appended to the kenel as it boots you just need to remove this tho I cant be sure what it looks like since I don't use grub |

Just curious why you don't think its an nVidia problem?
Thanks Jasp |
