Default Poor performance with GeForce Go 7300 using driver 304.51

Hello to anyone,
I have a laptop (Dell Latitude D620) with Fedora 17 installed.
Few days ago I've upgraded the NVidia driver using the installer NVIDIA-Linux-x86-304.51.run
from version 295.53. Since then I'm experiencing very poor performance.
As a rule of thumb i use "glxgears" to see the video chip performance and now it's like this

[fabio@dell ~]$ glxgears
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.852 FPS
298 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.542 FPS
299 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.763 FPS
297 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.379 FPS
299 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.761 FPS

Performance with driver 295.53 is much better, about 10800 frames in 5.0 seconds
Right now I got better performance with nouveau driver (about 3500 frames in 5.0 seconds)

Is this a know issue, or is just my luck?
I'm posting hardware/software configuration of my laptop,
thank you in advance for any help,
my kindest regards,
Fabio

Default Re: Poor performance with GeForce Go 7300 using driver 304.51

Don't worry. The frame rate with the new driver is pretty close to the refresh rate of the display (60Hz). This indicates that "Sync to Vblank" was enabled by 304.51. You may open Nvidia Xserver Settings and uncheck "Sync to Vblank" in "OpenGL Settings". Then start gxlgears again, and the frame rate difference will become obviuos.

Anyways, glxgears is probably the worst possible way of checking OpenGL performance.
