Hi,
the nvidia-settings binary shipped with 304.64 is linked against libpangox, which has been removed from pango: http://git.gnome.org/browse/pango/co...f0979d0460fe4f This renders nvidia-settings unusable on my system. Would it be possible to provide an nvidia-settings binary not linked against libpangox? |

Source tarball is here, compile your own version. You could also ask your distro to provide a pangox compatibility package, for example Arch has one.
Of course your request is totally valid, but what I wrote above are good alternatives. However, for the nvidia devs to actually see your request, post it at their new forums: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/board/98/linux/ |

i emailed the arch packager over a week ago about building nvidia-settings from source to avoid the dependency. as always, the all high and mighty packagers ignored my email...

They didn't over look it. the new developers were recruited terribly hastily when the old ones moved on. I know who is good and who isn't. I'll give you an example. I file a bug report once about the cron job in the squid package. instead of fixing it, they just moved the package to aur. That's an ugly side of their personalities. back when JGC and other developers were very active, the distribution was much healthier. The first sign of losing the KISS philosophy was introducing optdepends and using that as an excuse for shipping packages with broken dependencies. I am just happy they decided to pick up systemd. that was a good step. |
