i got some help and i figured out how to get this to work.

log in as root
now find the /etc/X11/XF86Config folder
then simply put nvidia where it says driver
then comment out dir in the module section with # in front of the statement

then logout of x "Ctrl+Alt+backspace"
then startx then u should c the nvidia logo.
cheers. thanx to corey d.

Default glx

Thanks to http://www.minion.de/nvidia.html I have nvidia kernel module working for 2D 24-bit color huge virtual desktop, realplayer videos.

1.0-4496 src t also compiles the nvidia_drv.o which is called "nvidia" by X, to place in the same dir as nv_drv.o in the X11R6 tree which is called "nv" by X. I used "nv" first, and it works great for 2D. Then to get "nvidia" loading instead of X's "nv"--

STEP 3: Check dependencies
The dependencies are listed in the README. It is important to note that the NVIDIA driver set requires XFree version 4.0.1 or greater.
[get your distro's X 4.2.1! -Bob]

If you already have an /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file working with a different driver
(such as the 'nv' or 'vesa' driver), then all you need to do is find
the relevant Device section and replace the line:

Driver "nv"
(or Driver "vesa")

Driver "nvidia"

In the Module section, make sure you have:

Load "glx"

You should also remove the following lines:

Load "dri"
Load "GLcore"

tells lots of GL-related details about library files that may have to be moved or linked differently. This would be horrible stuff for a newbie. I'll try to help explain.
I'm going to take AGPGART out of my kernel now that I know kernel nvidia mod is loading and working so it should do that itself. I'm going to check and make sure rivafb isn't in my kernel anymore.

I'm going to meticulously go over all of that GL lib stuff in the README.

I'll be back.
