Redhat 7.3 with GeForce 2 MX

hi,

now i am using Geforce 2 MX 400 on my P4 1.6..
i have install RedHat7.3 using the default kernel.
the problem is i cannot start my X windows for linux. y?

i have install new RPM driver for both
NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-3123.rh73up_2.4.18_10.i386.rpm and
NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-3123.i386.rpm..

but it still wont work y?

did anyone try it b4?

now i have change from RPM install to .tar installation. but it still wont work.

i can successfully install the NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-3123 from make install

but i cannot install from NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-3123 using make install. i get an error msg.

when i use setup to check my X configuration, it only detect TNT2 but not Geforce2 MX and i cannot get to change it. why? anyone know how to change?

I was haveing the same problem, tried the rpms, then the tar file but I wasn't being able to load the NVdriver module ,then i got the kernel updates from redhat (2.4.18-10) then did the rpms and edited my XF86config-4 file, then everything worked. but dvd playback is still laggy as hell , anyone know any tweaks that could help?

my system:

p-3 1000 mhz
256m RAM
Asus Geforce 2 gts deluxe- 32 meg ddr
Asus CUSL2 motherboard (815chipset)
RedHat 7.3
SB live soundcard

using ogle for dvd playback at 1024x768

i would think i should be able to watch dvd's a little smoother, or is the dvd support in ,linux that bad?

I meant to ask this in last post but forgot:

are you certain that the kernel module is loading? check with /sbin/lsmod

if not try loading manually with modprobe, if it gives you an error than those kernel updates should fix it.

Try to enable DMA on the DVD, it is disabled by default in RedHat

You were right, dma was turned off on my cd rom, i enabled it with hdparm, and the dvd playback has improved dramaticly, it's actually watchable now very much apreciated!

sorry i am still having the problem configuring my Linux 7.3 running on Geforce 2 MX..
i have update my kernel to 2.4.18-10 (kernel-2.4.18-10.i686)
and use NVIDIA (NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-3123.rh73up_2.4.18_10.i686) and NVIDIA (NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-3123.i386) file..
but it still cannot detect my AGP card y?

can you kindly show me how u configure ur "XF86config-4" file?
maybe somethg might have gone wrong there..

The process for configuring XF86Config-4 is documented in nVidia's README file...

If you can't understand what they've written, post your config file here and I'll see what I can find.

Also, you might as well post /var/log/XFree86.0.log while you're at it.

i have try the step in the README Nvidia provided.. but still cannot startx..

How about posting your config file? It appears you're attempting to load like 3 million drivers, and the first one (some ATI something) is complaining that your card isn't an ATI card -- well duh it isn't -- and X is bailing because of that.
