Cannot install nvgf4 drivers on Fedora
Just finished installing Fedora Test 3, and I'm unable to install the latest nVidia video drives, which is limiting me to 800x600. :'(
Vid Card: GF4 4200
Proc: AMD Athlon XP 1800+
Distro: Fedora (RedHat) Test 3
nvidia-installer.log is as follows:

download the kernel source from http://www.kernel.org and then extract it, copy the source to /usr/src then compile the kernel (make menuconfig, make bzImage, make modules, make modules_install, make install) then go to /etc/grub.conf and change root=LABEL/ to root=/dev/hdc1 or whatever drive partition your kernel is on then reboot and try.

normally you'd be right, it is BEST to go ahead and resolve the issue with re-compilation (but fedora compiles kernels on gcc32, it isn't strictly needed here) [/edit]
That is NOT necessary in this case. Simply export the decision to ignore the cc mismatch, like so:
Make sure and change this section to allow the modes you want, and to use the 'nvidia' driver before going back to X.
VendorName "Videocard vendor"
BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce 4 (generic)"
Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
