Default Flickering Mouse Cursor + Pixel errors

Hi!
I just installed the recent NVIDIA drivers. I'm using ubuntu breezy preview release and a geforce 6800 GT. I've got 2 problems
1. My Cursor flickers in X but also heavily in games and disappears from time to time. i already tried all HWcursor /SWcursor combinations.

2. In Games and also in video, f.e. in mplayer, many blue pixels appear randomly in darker areas of the screen just like the signal to the monitor (i'm using dvi+flatscreen) is beeing corrupted.
I didn't have this problem on windows, it just showed up on the linux system.

My xorg.conf:
Code:
# /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following commands:
#
# cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.custom
# sudo sh -c 'md5sum /etc/X11/xorg.conf >/var/lib/xfree86/xorg.conf.md5sum'
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

I can identify with the second problem you describe. I also have pixel issues. Im running updated FC4 system with latest nvidia drivers applied using the installer. These screen artifacts appear in vertical lines and are semi-random in nature (hard to describe in words). Im considering reverting to previous driver since I dont recall this issue prior. xorg log does not show anything unusual. Restarting X cleans them for a while.

A sure fire method of producing them involves enlarging thumbnails in the browser, although they also appear on the desktop wallpaper. Running gnome session.

Prior to reading your post I was about to conclude that I had a graphics card hardware problem. Now Im not so sure.

Im not at my Linux box at the moment so cannot provide details of my xorg.conf file.

Can each of you please generate and post a bug report either during or immediately after this corruption is occuring?

Thanks,
Lonni

Sorry, i just installed Windows back again on my hard disk, since i wanted to know if my hardware was damage, i was really shocked when i saw the artifacts, because my previous card showed the same errors under windows and a few days later it was screwed. from this point i can only say that it still works fine in windows... esp. no artifacts, lucky me. may be i'll try linux again in the future, but for now ill stay in my error free windows environment

thanks for your help anyways. to further specify the error i had: the artifacts began with just a few pixels in the darker areas and spreaded through out the areas. sadly i cant give you any screenshots now, mayb dudster can

Please find attached some files that may help. In a gnome session the pixel issue usually starts with an app, notabily firefox (running version 1.0.6), effects scroll bar in thunderbird email client.

The only file that I see attached is the driver installer log. I'd need to see an nvidia-bug-report.log from when this problem exists, or immediately afterwards.

Thanks,
Lonni

I had the same problem a few months ago with the old 6629. The system froze for a few seconds and then Xid and this corruption.
Works well on 7676 for me.

Im getting ready to blame xorg for this. I updated xorg (via yum) about the same time I updated the nvidia driver.

Interestingly, all applications dont behave this way. Ive seen some chatter that maybe the xorg composite extension may be the issue. Not sure if this is on by default on not. If it is Im going to turn the darn thing off if I can.

I also have enlightenment on this FC4 machine. It is really a basket case with the pixel issue. All this is relatively recent. Both gnome & enlightenment worked fine prior to about 2 weeks ago.

dudster,
I don't see any evidence that you're using the COMPOSITE extension from the bug report you posted. If everything was fine until two weeks ago, then I'd suggest trying to isolate what changed at that time, especially if you did not make any hardware changes, or any nvidia driver changes.

Thanks,
Lonni

As I mentioned, the thing that changed a few weeks ago was an xorg update.
