Hello, I just installed the nvidia drivers for my geforce2 mx400 64mb. After I did so i edited the XF86Config file and added the nvidia driver but when I try and startx it will not load dumping this...

try
modprobe nvidia or insmod nvidia before startx |

The module did load but I still get the "screen not found" error. Server will not load.

I have the same card as you and mandrake 8.2 so this may not be the case in your system.
BUT, I had to manually edit two other files. I added the line nvidia to /etc/modules and added the line alias char-major-195 nvidia to /etc/modules.conf Also comment out any line that has NVdriver in it. I don't use startx either. I just switch to init 5 and let the system start the xserver. |

do :
cat /var/log/message | grep NVRM and look if you have this line. if you have it, then it's an AGP pb. >>NVRM: AGPGART: unable to retrieve symbol table |
