Booting Directly to the Desktop in Windows 8.1
Here's how to boot directly to the desktop in Windows 8.1.
Position the mouse on the taskbar, right-click, then select Properties. The Taskbar and Navigation properties screen will appear. Click on the Navigation tab like so:
Under the Start screen section check the box that says "When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start".
Reboot and you will bypass the MetroUI and be taken directly to the desktop.
