Me too, the moment I heard this was going to be made to run on a console I ran over to sign

Edit: Take a look at the comments on that petition, there are a lot of very disapointed people

A great thread for performance tweaking the DE2 demo, I'm knowledge raping it now.

Well, My Performance increased a bit once I figured out something has been boggling my performance down (A taskbar icon) My Frame rates are about 6% better now than what I posted.

Has anyone seen any developer comments since the demo was released? Im curious to see what they have to say now that they KNOW that they made a lot of mistakes with this game.

I just played the demo a few more times and its really not a good game... Deus Ex was fun and had a lot of atmosphere... this game is just... bleh...

Also, whats with the weapon damage? I have to shoot people 5 or 6 times with the pistol to kill them.... and the pistol is really the only weapon you can use because the other guns use the ammo much more quickly with no real advantage (the flame thrower requires 4 seconds of constant firing to make an enemy catch fire).

Another thing... where are the sounds? I walk around and hear random ambient sounds but its not like DX where everything even remotely significant emitted some sort of noise. Plus, the gun sounds are a tad boring... guns dont go "pshhzzz" they go "BAAAAAAM"... I dont care how far into the future this is, thats not going to change.

Gah.... this is a disapointment....

I'm not impressed. This can't be near done. The mouse lag is horrible.
But then I couldn't get into the original for the same reasons, Perhaps because I was playing on a TNT instead of a Voodoo.

Sadly, Im getting the impression, off the ion storm forums, that DX2 is a dud.

I was really looking forward to it, since I didn't get to play the first one, back in the day.

O well, Guess Immah be busy with X2: The threat then.

Maybe HL2 will come out one day.

Well first off, I don't understand how it's the Xbox's fault that the game mechanics are worse when they decided on it BEFORE they announced a console version. They decided to simplify the leveling up elements because they thought it would offer a more "straightforward" experience, and really isn't that suprising considering how much more complex the RPG elements were in System Shock 2 compaired to Deus Ex. Ion Storm (formally Looking Glass) has been making their game mechanics simpler as they goes on, it's hardly the fault of a console when they've been doing that for the last 5 years.

Also, I can live with sub-par performence. I DID beat Deus Ex at 4 FPS average (sometimes less in large gunfights), so even if I only get 15 FPS in DX2 I think it would still be playable. The game isn't really a twitch shooter anyway (at least the first one wasn't...).

Anyway, I'm still downloading the demo, so it'll take me a while to get it, but some of the reports that I'm hearing are a bit discouraging. I mean, I can *kinda*understand having the unified ammo arcitecture (though it does sound silly), but no area-specific damage? Why?!? The last FPS to not have location damage was Quake 3, how could they not think that it would be important in this game? Also, why does it sound like the level designs are now much more straightforward? And why do the RPG elements seem almost unnecissary? I do remember in an interview they did in 2001 or so where they talked about making the RPG elements less specialized and make them all important, though back then I never thought they ment they were merging all the weapons skills into one. I thought they were only talking about getting rid of the Environmental Suit skill, and merging the swimming skills and augs, etc. Now it sounds more like they're trying to turn the game into Serious Sam.

Well anyway, I'll have the demo in a few days and I'll be able to judge it first-hand then, but I'm very disapointed by how it sounds. I just don't see how they could've screwed it up so bad when the formula they had in Deus Ex 1 was so good (though I do wish they had a System Shock 2-type skill system in that game). Hopefully the full game will be better (they DID say that the start of the game, where the demo takes place, would be a very linear and simplistic experience...I hope that wasn't an exaduration).

uhh... there are no skills now. No leveling... no experience. Basicly its a shooter with augmentations and a (hopefully) interesting\involving story.

Bleh....

Did any gamers beta test this, or did they just create the game and then release a demo? You'd think that someone along the way would have pointed it out that they completely missed the point when they removed all the interesting features.

Oh well.... as with every sequel Ive really anticipated, this one doesnt live up to the hype... Morrowind, GTA 3, Postal 2....
