Default boot probs - xp pro

on boot up i keep getting this error msg:

Varifying DMI Pool Data
Boot From CD : Failure
Boot From CD : Failure
Boot Disk Failure - Insert System Disk And Press Enter

this is after taking out an unused 20gb hd.
anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it ?

*note - if i hit enter the system continues boot up with out the disk being in the drive.

My guess is a bios setting. I used to get that with my old hdd, if I enabled bus mastering. Does your hdd have the jumper set to master? Has the Master been set in the bios? What order are ur boot devices? I always set mine to my primary hdd as first boot device, unless I need to boot from floppy or cd.

Glad you got it sorted

As to you slow shut down, you dont have a logitech keyboard with iTouch software installed by any chance? Using the latest iTouch software will cause a long shut down, if it is indeed this, use the drivers from the cd and do not update.

If its not that, its still more than likely a program not closing down straight away. You can check event viewer under administration tools.

How long does it take to shut down? My system takes around 30-45 seconds.

What services do you have running? That is a long time.

You dont have any Logitech iTouch software installed do you? There was a problem with Logitech's software for thier mouse/keyboards which caused very long shutdowns, I believe that there is a driver update that fixes that.

If its not that, well........I'll just go back to my corner
