Unhappy GeForce FX 5200 Ultra failes

Hello,

Yesterday I got myself a GeFoce FX 5200 Ultra with one DVI, one VGA and one S-Video out. I've two monitors and a TV connected. The monitors form a dualhead and the TV is a copy of a part of the left monitor. The problem is that no matter how I setup my configuration the console crashes and the machine gets very very very slow. First I tought the system had crashed, but I still seemed to be able to SSH into the box, I just had to wait very long. After a couple of minutes I was able to get a prompt and issue a sync and a reboot so that I got get some useful things in the logfile.

I'm running Gentoo with a vanilla kernel 2.4.22 and nvidia drivers 1.0.4496. I've used two GeForce 2 MX 400 (one PCI and one AGP) for a half year with the nvidia drivers, so the drivers should work fine I guess.

When I boot the system I get the same console on both monitors, so the card seems to work and detect both monitors.

Any idea how to solve this issue?

Tia, Lourens

P.S. The config and log file are both in the attachment.

run top and you will proberly see XFree86 runngin 95%+
you can kill -9 the X process and your login manager will restart it and all will be well (for a short time).

Many people are this issue, no fix but, if you disable APM and lower the AGP speed or under clock you might get a more stable system, also you could try the older 4xxx series drivers.

I just do not use games or xscreensaver and have months of X uptime
