i just exchanged my riva tnt to a geforce fx5200. since the upgrade any video played using xv (like xine, mplayer or lavplay) messes up the colours, which used to be ok before. i am running xfree 4.3 with the 1.0-4496 drivers at 16 bit colour depth. has anybody run into the same problem? is there a solution except for changing the cards back ?

With my ti4400 I have seen discoloration in various movie files, usually pink or purple hues where lighting is very bright. The same files play correctly (without discoloration) on Windows players (quicktime or wmp). I have no solution, but haven't tested older drivers or player codec versions.
