Default xfree86-dri missing... previous fix doesn't work

X works fine, and the first time I do something that is 3d accelerated it works fine, but every time thereafter (until a reboot) I get the error message

Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".

My video card is a geforce 2 MX with 32MB, my driver is NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run, my distro is Gentoo, my video bios is 03.11.00.04.00, my processor is a pentium 3 800EB, and my motherboard is an Asus CUSL2. I can't help but feel most of that info is useless, but hey.

I'm attaching my XF86Config-4 file, or at least trying to... I'm new to this, so if I'm doing anything wrong with it that's unrelated to my current problem feel free to tell me about that too (assuming I even attach it properly).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Well, in case anyone else has this problem, I fixed it. It was a simple matter of removing the Chipset line from the XF86Config-4 file. I think that was there in the first place because I copied the file from somewhere else in an attempt to avoid mistakes. Fat lot of good THAT did me. Oh well. Cheers.

Uh, sorry, I meant the Boardname line (the more astute of you will notice there is no chipset line)... Argh. Should think before I post.

Errr, first of all, Nvidia is not DRI, there is no DRI driver for Nvidia...

The last section of your XF86Config file, just remove it and it will work...

Remove these two lines:

Section "DRI"
Mode 0666
