I use fluxbox, so no icons for me, if I install the drivers.

the control panel alone may make we wanna give the betas a whirl...
after you have installed the bettas , from the CLI do a
# /usr/bin/nvidia-settings

well tonight I finally got around to compiling kernel 2.6.0-test11 and I grabbed kuduz from fedora devel and with this new driver it runs great. I actually notice small improvements in games and in general am happy with this driver. i can't wait for the final and can only imagine what work has been done since this driver was compiled.

Is Andy Mecham dead? He hasn't posted here in nearly six months, and he hasn't been on irc since May. What's up?

Talking Gaming!

Using the 4620 Drivers I have a large performance Jump. I have a Geforce 4 ti4800se (basically a 4400) and it is performing much better on the few games I play in linux. It is obviously smoother and takes less time load levels. The nvidia-settings program and its adjustments seems to work very well too. I am using Gentoo Linux 1.4 with Kernel 2.4.22-ac4 but from what I have heard it works well in 2.6 also. I have been waiting to get a Geforce FX5700 Ultra and now my card is fast. Ohh well I probably will still buy one!!! I waited for this instead of buying ATI and now i'm all good!!!

Soltek 75FRN2-RL (Nforce2 400 Ultra)
Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton Core)
OCZ-3500LL Mem
Maxtor 120GB 2MB Cache
Leadtek Winfast A280TD MyVivo Edition (ti 4800se)
LG 32x12x40 CD-RW and 16x DVD Combo
1x Sharpie Maker I just noticed inside the case???

Default version 4620-pkg1 drivers...

FYI -
Installed the beta version 4620-pkg1 drivers in a Gateway M500 that uses an nVidia GeForce 4 420 Go w/32MB video card using a fully up-to-date Fedore Core 1 installation...

I still have no consoles (Ctrl/Alt/F-keys)...they are not available with the 4496-pkg2 drivers either, I use the version 4363 drivers which does give me the consoles

For what it's worth, the 'glxgears --display' frames count is lower by 100 frames per second as compared to the version 4363 drivers. Version 4620-pkg1 gives 1702 FPS @ 16 bit color - version 4363 drivers gives 1809 FPS @ 16 color...

More work is needed!

Default glxgears

For what its worth I get between 13,000 and 15,000FPS with GLXGears with a Dual Hyperthread enabled Xeon 2.4Ghz, 1Gb Dual Channel DDR, Tyan Tiger S2668 Mobo (i7505) and an 8x FX5800 Ultra - God knows what nVidia driver version - but the ones you download from Suse (9.0 professional) after installing.

Needless to say you are on your own and NO ONE will take responsability if something weird happens on your computers.

I won't be able to test them in the next 12 hours. Sorry.
Well, considering that NO ONE will take any responsibility when it comes to Linux drivers from Nvidia at all, it really does not matter...

Actually, i consider these drivers /devel/test and the public ones /devel, and they are placed in those branches too...

Hopefully Nvidia will work towards stability first and performance second...

Sometime...

In the future...

Since I'm not a game player, so far stability hasn't been an issue on either of my systems! I only make mention of the 'glxgears --display' frame rate since it is one test that everyone has on their systems. Even though it may not be a proper test for video benchmarking, I know that if I get a frame rate in the 200s without the drivers, and a frame rate in the 1800s with the drivers installed, the higher frame rate must be, has to be, better.

Everything in this world 'is' relative...

SuSE's Yast downloads version 4496...

Just installed it on a Dell Inspiron 8600 with 1920x1200. Sweet. Worked right out of the download. And just as I was cursing about having upgraded XFree86 and lost my previous Go5650 solution.

Now, when will NVidia announce an official solution? I sure would have loved seeing this beta a few months ago (which apparently was quite possible) when I didn't get my new laptop going.

Thanks to all involved in making this beta available.
