Angry Suse 8.2. - Nvidia Driver Compiling

Hi.

Oh man im am so angry about nvidia...

I have the following problem with the nvidia driver installation.

My System is SuSe 8.2.
I have installed the kernel sources kernel-source-2.4.20.SuSE-30 from the CD.

My Kernel Version is the following:
Linux version 2.4.20-4GB (root@Pentium.suse.de) (gcc version 3.3 20030226 (prerelease) (SuSE Linux)) #1 Wed Aug 6 18:26:21 UTC 2003

The first problem i had was the installer get running, because it said that the kernel was installed with a different gcc version *lol* -> here is my gcc version -> gcc version 3.3 20030226 (prerelease) (SuSE Linux)

Ok no Problem before i start the installer i set the environment with the following parameter ->
export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=yes

Then the installer started an compiling the module.

But after 100 percent it arboted and put the following information in the log:

ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.o'. This is most likely
because the kernel module was built using the wrong kernel header files.
Please make sure you have installed the kernel header files for your
kernel; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure you have the
'kernel-source' rpm installed. If you know the correct kernel header
files are installed, you may specify the kernel include path with the
'--kernel-include-path' commandline option.

Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including
invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg

Why dont you just download the nvidia driver in suse update(YOU) thats has a precompile kernel for the suse 8.2 one.

After you've download it, the nvidia installer is stored in /usr/share/doc/nvidia

By the way, dont install the updated kernel from suse update if you want to keep it simple and have 3d working.

Thumbs up easy

there is one step you probably have forgotten. if you have updated your kernel (with YOU), try this:
`make cloneconfig && make dep`

now you can start installing the driver:
`export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=yes`

and now start the installer...

i have had the same problem, now its working fine

excuse my terrible english...
