I always use stable drivers , this time i tried ALSO the latest beta drivers and had no improvements.
The problems exist with both the drivers ..... |

What motherboard is it on, what cpu, or your computername if you bought a pre built... I have a feeling there are incompabilites with Nvidias drivers drivers and your chipset, it happens A LOT, of course, i could be wrong, i was once before... (no, you won't get pregnant* ;-) |

I have got to test this out, be patiant for a day or two and i'll come back with results... I assume you have tried the obvious things like BIOS upgrades for both the MB and the Card... Gonna check it out, will be back soon with results... |

I know it is scary, believe me, when i did it 10 years ago on my fathers system, it WAS scary, he would have spanked my butt with a barn if i would have failed... Not to worry, just download the files and put them on a boot floppy, (follow the instructions, reboot and let the floppy upgrade the computer... Unless you get a sudden power surge it will be ok... i would use the regular format option of the diskette though, sure, it will take a few minutes, but you just do it once... If you need a further explanation or completed work... my e-mail is snap.it@telia.com... |

I updated the MB BIOS , but no improvements ...
i downloaded the UT2003 demo , and i want to try some benchmarks , but i can't get any results because they all stop after a while with this error: Xlib: extension "XiG-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD" missing on display ":0.0". i can actually play the game at ~30 fps with all normal settings 800x600 32bit |

One more thing that could increase the fps rate
You can enable the Fast Writes and SBA for the nvidia drivers in the file /etc/modules.conf After the line with "alias char-major-195 nvidia" have added this line options nvidia NVreg_EnableAGPFW=1 and the 2d peformance screams now on par with a radeon9000 (no more black rectangles when mooving mozillla/gnome console window )On the 3d performance increased but here need to do some tests ... In your case i think should write in /etc/modules.conf options nvidia NVreg_EnableAGPSBA=1 NVreg_EnableAGPFW=1 Here is the full article about Fast Writes and SBA in linux http://www.brandonhutchinson.com/NVI...Hat_Linux.html

I have the same Problem here:
A7N8X, AMD Athlon 2100+, 1GB RAM, GFX 5200 128MB/128bit Fedora Core 1 nvidia driver 4493 and 4620beta glxgears: around 500FPS Quake3 1.32, demo 4, 1280x1024/32bit/tril: 50FPS It felt somehow slow, so I tested it on my home System: A7A266, AMD Athlon 1700+, 1GB RAM, GFX 5200 128MB/128bit RedHat 9 nvidia driver 4493 and 4620beta glxgears: around 1800FPS Quake3 1.32, demo 4, 1280x1024/32bit/tril: 80FPS That was a bit better. But still....So I booted My Fedora on a third system: A7V8X, AMD Athlon 2100+, 512MB RAM, GF4 MX440 64MB/ Fedora Core 1 nvidia driver 4620beta glxgears: around 2000FPS Quake3 1.32, demo 4, 1280x1024/32bit/tril: 95FPS ?:-) Since the card is a replacement for the MX series, I expected somehow the same performance. |
