Default I get 940FPS with my GF2MX 200 32MB

at 24bit depth and 1620fps@16bit.

There must be something wrong. I just know that a GF4MX440 should be like a GF2Ultra. Over 2000fps

I have:
Gainward GFX 5200.
Asus A7N8X

Any specials settings in the Bios of the A7N? I run with the defaults!
The Gainward could not be that slower!

I think I give gentoo a try......

I have the exact same card and the exact same problems.

here's the info about my nvidia stuff::
root@MOJO-JO-JO nvidia # cat cards/0
Model: GeForce FX 5200
IRQ: 11
Video BIOS: 04.34.20.18.00
Card Type: AG

root@MOJO-JO-JO nvidia # cat version
NVRM version: NVIDIA Linux x86 nvidia.o Kernel Module 1.0-5328 Wed Dec 17 13:54:51 PST 2003
GCC version: gcc version 3.2.3 20030422 (Gentoo Linux 1.4 3.2.3-r3, propolice)

(does anyone know how to change the driver from AGPGART to NVAGP ?
root@MOJO-JO-JO agp # cat status
Status: Enabled
Driver: AGPGART
AGP Rate: 4x
Fast Writes: Disabled
SBA: Enabledroot@MOJO-JO-JO driver # cat nvram
Checksum status: valid
# floppies : 1
Floppy 0 type : 3.5'' 1.44M
Floppy 1 type : none
HD 0 type : 2f
HD 1 type : none
HD type 48 data: 63/0/0 C/H/S, precomp 0, lz 0
HD type 49 data: 255/240/129 C/H/S, precomp 17168, lz 51045
DOS base memory: 640 kB
Extended memory: 65535 kB (configured), 65535 kB (tested)
Gfx adapter : EGA, VGA, ... (with BIOS)
FPU : installed

your description is identical to my problem, i have been unable to remedy this problem and there are no errors when starting xfree but these are the warnings given :

root@MOJO-JO-JO log # grep "(WW)" XFree86.0.log
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
(WW) Open APM failed (/dev/apm_bios) (No such file or directory)
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Monitor0: Using default hsync range of 30.00-70.00kHz
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Monitor0: using default vrefresh range of 50.00-160.00Hz
(WW) (1400x1050,Monitor0) mode clock 122MHz exceeds DDC maximum 110MHz
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Not using mode "700x525" (height 1050 is larger than
(WW) NVIDIA(0): EDID-specified maximum 1024)
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Not using mode "1152x768":
(WW) NVIDIA(0): horizontal sync start (1178) not a multiple of 8
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Not using mode "576x384":

(WW) NVIDIA(0): Not using mode "360x200":
(WW) NVIDIA(0): horizontal sync start (378) not a multiple of 8

this is another interesting thing.
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "NVIDIA Event Handler" (type: Other)

it is the suspicion that this is the reason my mouse lags (not very noticable in my WM) but once i run games the mouse lag increases quite a bit and makes gameplay difficult.

here is a copy of my xfree configuration

this is a sucky problem.. and i thought that ati cards were a hassle. tsk tsk.. this is very frustrating i was stoked for some good ol ut2k3 action i even went out and bought neverwinter nights thinking.. ok now this will work better.

:~( i hope someone posts a fix to this soon or i'll be forced to take my own life.

What is that with the agpgart? Where will I get the nvagp??

---
btw:
Windows?
That is not a solution! That is a workaround.
I have a partition with Windows installed. I use it only for the games (there are still more
games for Windows). But I'd like to play those games that are availble for linux under linux.

Default I concur.

K well i also love playing games on linux
linux native games i find run better than the same windows native game.

I got my video card functioning correctly.. i think my xfree was broken. not the config but xfree itself because i compilled a newer version and things work great now!

and as for my mouse lagging.. i was quick to blame nvidia for this because i came back from vacation and immediately installed the card. well i guess while i was on vacation my wireless optical mouse (microsoft) was broken with no good explination.. it still works but there is about a 100ms lag on it which is very! annoying

so i bought a new mouse and playing games in linux is fine.. and now after this whole ordeal im stuck with a 20 meg partition and windows :\

whatever maybe it will come in handy for installing stuff without using wine and then i can run it with wine.. who knows
