Default client/server model

Hi,
I've installed the win2000 advanced server, can I ask how can I set up a client/server connection for internet access as well as file sharing? Is that similar to peer-to-peer network? do I just join the same workgroup for both computers? Thx.

Adrian

Depends on yur setup but I will make some assumptions

With two network adapters in your system one hooked to the internet and the other to your lan use internet connection sharing to share your internet. Simply enable ICS on the nic connected to the internet.

This will set the secound nic's ipaddress to 192.168.0.1
Set your other ssytems to
192.168.0.2 mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.0.1 dns server 192.168.0.1

then 192.168.0.3 mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.0.1 dns server 192.168.0.1

and 192.168.0.4 mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.0.1 dns server 192.168.0.1

With all of the systems on the same work group create a share on the server by right clicking on the desired folder and share it with a name and give out permissions accordingly....hope that helps

If you created a domain and made the server a domain controller on active directory then every thing is different than if you made it a member server on a work group.

What did you do?
