Default What does texture sharpening do?

What does the texture sharpening option do in the antialising panel of the det drivers?

it doubles the degree of anistrophy in conjunction with aa to reduce image blurring that occurs when using quincunx or 4x-9tap.

well, actually it does double the anistrophic filtering with 2xaa, but there isn't any blurring that occurs in 2xaa. it'll lower your performance and look "better", but you would hardly notice the difference in image quality. sometimes having the textures too sharp isn't good. so if you are using 2x aa or 4xaa might as well turn off texture sharpening to get the increase in performace. if using quincunx or 4x-9tap than turn it on for better image quality.

thanx alot for the info . I'm trying to see which setting i like best for ut2k3 and im undecided between 2X and quincunx. Quincunx really brings out the color and makes it looks pretty good but i dunno...2X is alot sharper.

By the way, if you click on the 'check box' where that option is in the display driver and press F1 it pops up a help window explaining what that option does. Most options have help available.

May I assume that if you are already using 8xAF you will get no benefit from "texture sharpening" since Nvidia doesn't use 16xAF?

yes, AFAIK people were saying that texture sharpening merely bumped up AF one level over the current one, with 8x being the max.
