Default rm_init_adapter

Hello,

i've a Geforce 2, and I've problems with more recent driver.

Dec 16 21:19:01 ratman kernel: 0: nvidia: loading NVIDIA Linux x86 nvidia.o Kernel Module 1.0-4496 Wed Jul 16 19:03:09 PDT 2003
Dec 16 21:19:19 ratman kernel: 0: NVRM: rm_init_adapter faile

Note that if I reinstall the version 1.0.2314 it works fine.

I've already read the README, but I don't find any clue. The kernel driver error message is the only error I can find.

TIA,
Diego.

Question

Have you enabled any driver debugging?

Can you post a full dmesg and a full copy of the XFree86 log?

Hi,

I've attached dmesg after the boot, and x11 error log. The only missing piece is the message of the nvidia kernel driver when loaded at x11 start (it's in the previous post).

I don't know if there's some option for more verbose messages from nvidia kernel module.

TIA,
Diego.

The rm_init_adapter lines don't appear in your dmesg. Are you sure the nvidia kernel module is being loaded somewhere?

Yes, I'm sure. Please check my first and second post:

Note that when X11 try to start in dmesg the are only few lines. For example I've tried two different version of drivers, and different configuration.

I've also tried to:
  • compile agpgart as module
  • add 'option "NvAgp" "1"' to x11 config file

TIA,
Diego.
