Default X server will not load after driver install

Hello, I just installed the nvidia drivers for my geforce2 mx400 64mb. After I did so i edited the XF86Config file and added the nvidia driver but when I try and startx it will not load dumping this...

The install did create a kernel module, which is what is confusing to me. Any help is appreciated. Thanx in advance...

The module did load but I still get the "screen not found" error. Server will not load.

I have the same card as you and mandrake 8.2 so this may not be the case in your system.
BUT, I had to manually edit two other files.

I added the line
nvidia to /etc/modules

and added the line
alias char-major-195 nvidia to /etc/modules.conf

Also comment out any line that has NVdriver in it.

I don't use startx either. I just switch to init 5 and let the system start the xserver.

do :

cat /var/log/message | grep NVRM

and look if you have this line. if you have it, then it's an AGP pb.

>>NVRM: AGPGART: unable to retrieve symbol table
