Question Problem installing driver

In my notebook I've got a GeForce4 440 Go M64.

After the installation of the driver (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5328-pkg1.run) i start X but my monitor become black. The only way to exit is rebooting using Ctrl+alt+canc.

log file finish with
(II) NVIDIA(0) :AGP 4X succesfully initialized
(II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "1024x768/60Mhz"

in XF86Config i've changed only
Driver from "nv" to "nvidia"

Video Card: GeForce4 440 Go 64M
Distribution: Slackware 9.1
Kernel: 2.4.22
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 2.666Mhz

This happened to me once when I selected the wrong monitor type. I'm no pro, but it never hurts to try it :/

think it's a problem with AGP.

Try to put :
Option "NvAgp" "0"

in the "Device" section, like this :

I think It should work ;-)

Section "Device"
Identifier "ASUS NVIDIA GEFORCE4 MX AGPX8"
Driver "nvidia"
Option "NvAgp" "0"
EndSection

Surely a little...
It Disable the AGP support.
So you're card is running in PCI mode.

But it's better than a black screen.

I own the KT400 chipset on a A7V8X-X ASUS Motherboard and it isn't in the
kernel.

FYI :
0 : disable agp
1 : use NVIDIA's internal AGP support, if possible
2 : use AGPGART, if possible
3 : use any agp support (try AGPGART, then NVIDIA's AGP)

I can use AGPGART since I have updated the Bios of my motherboard. (version 1006 to 1007)...Asus say in the information that it fix lot of problems with AGP8X boards...
I have read that there was lot of problems with the KT400 & AGP Graphic boards.

Here is a benchmak using glxgears (done with a 2400+).

AGP Disabled (0):
2962 frames in 5.0 seconds = 592.400 FPS
2862 frames in 5.0 seconds = 572.400 FPS
2978 frames in 5.0 seconds = 595.600 FPS
3018 frames in 5.0 seconds = 603.600 FPS
3009 frames in 5.0 seconds = 601.800 FPS
2975 frames in 5.0 seconds = 595.000 FPS
2977 frames in 5.0 seconds = 595.400 FPS
3011 frames in 5.0 seconds = 602.200 FPS

With AGPGART (2)
3320 frames in 5.0 seconds = 664.000 FPS
3358 frames in 5.0 seconds = 671.600 FPS
3367 frames in 5.0 seconds = 673.400 FPS
3432 frames in 5.0 seconds = 686.400 FPS
3420 frames in 5.0 seconds = 684.000 FPS
3350 frames in 5.0 seconds = 670.000 FPS
3433 frames in 5.0 seconds = 686.600 FPS

As you can see there isn't lot of difference, and it's hard to see the difference on a game.

I will try to do a benchmark under Quake2
