win2k / twin view / TV out: can't watch DVD's
At home, I own a computer with the following setup:
- win2k, Asus V9520 TD (geForce FX 5200), Asus DVD xp for playing DVD's.
- I've set up a dual screen configuration with a DVI flat screen as the first display.
The TV-out is plugged into my video tape recorder, which in turn is plugged into my TV.
- The twinview setup is the following: LCD: 1280x1024, TV-out: 1024x768, composite.
This is the max output resolution that I can get.
With this setup, I can get static windows on my TV without any problem. The image is stable. The problem occurs when I try to watch a DVD on the TV. There are two problems actually:
1/ The image immediately starts to alternate brighter, darker and so on every second or so.
2/ Then, every about 30 seconds, it seems that the video synchro is lost: the image disappears and I get lines of "snow" crossing the TV screen for some time. Then, the synchro seems back again and the whole weirdness starts again at 1/.
The sound is correct.
Out of curiosity, I've tried to force S-Video signal instead of composite. Unsurprisingly, I get a black and white image, but surprisingly, I don't get effect 2/. The synchro seems stable.
Any ideas ?

That's the macrovision copy protection on the dvd kicking in.
Either plug straight into the tv without the vcr or disable macrovision with a piece of software like DVD Region Free.
Maybe tomorrow I'll wanna settle down, until tomorrow I'll just keep moving on...
