i agree, cept for imaging, clonecd won't work for me, and nero's fine. it might be slower but i don't mind waiting a minute or two.

CloneCD's better than Nero for imaging because it can read Safedisc and all that crap...

I would have agreed with Nero until they started sucking. I've never been able to get a version of Nero higher than 5.5.6.4 to work properly on my system. Be it complete hardlocks or recorded buffer underrun errors, after 5.5.9.2 I said the heck with it. Easy CD Creator 5.3 suits my compellation/audio CD creation needs perfectly. And IMO ECDC makes a better audio CD than does Nero. I know you folks are gonna disagree with me, but that's how I feel.
Best CD image creator is CloneCD. Paired with my Plextor 24/10/40A and CCD 4.001 I have yet to find a copy-protected CD I can't duplicate. Granted, reading a Safedisc 2 image takes an hour, but the results are well worth the time invested. To read those images, Daemon Tools - 'nuff said. ![]() |

Never had a problem with Nero, and the audio CDs I burn with it sounds as good as the originals... so I dunno.

Only problem with it is if you have a usb based cd writer, you cant use it on the run like most linux utilities. (yes i know usb based external burner... dodgy but it comes in handy at lan parties).
Apart from that fireburner is a fairly slick cd wrtining program. Only thing i like about clone machine is you can use an individual ISO formatting (not the standards such as Joliet) , so that only folks who have that standard can read the cd. I have not yet found a use for it but it is fairly neat.

Personally I like NTI's cd-maker. It has never caused any problems with my system unlike Adaptec and Nero. And it's cd copy lets me backup protected cds, even SafeDisc2, without any trouble. It was also the only cd program I could run without having to upgrade to get it work right under windows XP.
I still use Nero on occasion when I'm making VCD's or custom made bootable discs. But other then those few occasions, NTI is rock solid and very fast. |
