HI guys
I recently installed the latest 5328 drivers on my FC1 box with a Geoforce2 MX400 card. Everything worked fine except for the fact that all graphics would run at around 5fps! glxinfo reported that direct rendering was enabled and that the nvidia module was being used. No amount of tweaking to the XFConfig file helped. I've googled this case endlessly and also this board, but no authoritive fix seems to be known. Simply using the standard Xfree86 drivers works much better at around 100fps or more... I was thinking of trying the RPM packages available at http://rebus.webz.cz/#nvidia or http://atrpms.physik.fu-berlin.de/di...dia-graphics/. Can anyone using Fedora or RH confirm better success with RPMS over nvidia's pkg installer? Or should I maybe try out an older driver release such as 4496 using nvidia's installer? TY helios |

Your Fedora is determined using the TLS GLX libs from XFree86 in /usr/X11R6/lib/tls/libGL*. Delete/rename them only in this dir. ldconfig after that, restart X.

Actually I have already deleted the libraries within that directory. Currently libGL.so.1 points to /usr/lib/tls/libGL.so.1 and libGLcore.so.1 to /usr/lib/tls/libGLcore.so.1.
Here is an ldd of /usr/bin/tuxracer as an example: Code:
libSM.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libSM.so.6 (0x00b92000)
libICE.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libICE.so.6 (0x00b79000)
libX11.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.so.6 (0x00a64000)
libXi.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXi.so.6 (0x00ddb000)

Hi guys
I finally managed to install the latest 5328 drivers smoothly and and with all problems fixed. ![]() For those with similar performance bottlenecks, the problem was a AGP-related bug with the pkg installer from the official nvidia download site. The fix is to go to http://www.sh.nu/download/nvidia/linux-2.4/ and use the installer from there. I went from 0.3fps in tuxracer to around 1000fps! ![]() helios |

I had this problem when I tried to update my 2.4.22 slackware kernel with 5328 driver. No matter how I configured my kernel, I always had
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Failed to verify AGP usage in the logs, and whilst the X mostly worked, I had to startx twice (1st one always crashed), and the 3D acceleration lagged like hell. I tried building the driver against 2.6.1 kernel, but configuration failed. I wasn't brave enough to download several megs of unofficial code, like some in this thread suggested, so I solved the problem by stepping back to 4496 and 2.4.22 kernel, which works fine for now. X started and UT and Quake are running fine :P Mel |
