Unhappy nvnetlib.o compile error in redhat 9

When I try to compile NVIDIA_nforce-1.0-0269 I get:

cc -c -Wall -DLINUX -DMODULE -DEXPORT_SYMTAB -D__KERNEL__ -O -Wstrict-prototypes -DCONFIG_PM -fno-strict-aliasing -mpreferred-stack-boundary=2 -march=i686 -falign-functions=4 -DMODULE -I/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/build/include -DMODVERSIONS -include /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/build/include/linux/modversions.h nvnet.c
ld -r -o temp.o nvnet.o nvnetlib.o
nvnetlib.o: file not recognized: File format not recognized
make: *** [nvnet.o] Error 1

The audio driver seems to compile just fine.

The OS is a fresh install of redhat 9. For some reason 8 would not boot off the CD.

The hardware is an athlon64. The MB is a shuttle XPC. I have not gotten to installing the FX 5900 drivers yet because without the network it is pretty much worthless.

Angry nvneetlib.o error also happens in redhat 8

I updated the bios and then the redhat 8.0 cd would boot just fine. But I still get the same message about unrecognized format.

Has anyone successfully compiled the nforce3 network driver?

Default figured it out.

for redhat 8 and 9 you need the ia32 version. I thought it went by chipset and since I had an nforce3 i would need the amd64. thus the message about unknown format for the library.

I am getting the fedora 64 to see if it works.

Default

I have the same problem with NVIDIA_nforce-1.0-0269.tar.gz and nvnet module for ethernet

make
cc -c -Wall -DLINUX -DMODULE -DEXPORT_SYMTAB -D__KERNEL__ -O -Wstrict-prototypes -DCONFIG_PM -fno-strict-aliasing -mpreferred-stack-boundary=2 -march=i686 -falign-functions=4 -DMODULE -I/lib/modules/2.4.24-0/build/include -DMODVERSIONS -include /lib/modules/2.4.24-0/build/include/linux/modversions.h nvnet.c
ld -r -o temp.o nvnet.o nvnetlib.o
nvnetlib.o: file not recognized: File format not recognized
make: *** [nvnet.o] Greška 1

And this problem is also described on

http://www.scyld.com/pipermail/realt...ne/001689.html

Probably this is the problem with nvnetlib.o. We need Source nvnetlib.c to compile 1.0-269 Version.

NVIDIA_nforce-1.0-0261.tar.gz compile good on my

Athlon XP 3000+, Abit NF7-S, Asus Geoforce FX 5600, Slackware Linux 9.1 (gcc 3.2.3), Kernel 2.4.24

Any further Ideas, please

Default fedora 64

The stock fedora 64 works fine with the nforce3 driver. I did have a lockup
once when I selected an opengl screensaver. But other gl screensavers
seem to work fine. After installing the nvidia video drivers.

My current quest is to get neverwinter night to work. It does not seem to like the libgl that is in there. says it can't find it but ldconfig says it is there.
Could be a 64 bit lib does not work with a 32 bit app? If anyone can shed light on whether it is possible to get nwn to work I would appreciate it.

I think i will try tuxracer and see if it works without having to have a 64bit
version.
