Default Halflife 2 hacker found???

http://theinquirer.net/?article=13704

Check it out..... I guess that some people owe Valve an apology for saying they weren'et hacked and it was a stunt... or for saying that Valve hadn't contacted the law enforcement agencies but only the community.... ???

I always thought HL2 was really hacked. It seemed pretty 'convenient' though, as it gave Valve a (good) reason for HL2's delay. But no developer would get stupid enough to release his source code just so he can delay his game a bit more.
I also feel sorry for the poor guy . He had his PCs taken away by the feds and is probably innocent. I mean, if I was guilty and the FBI would let me take my car... I would just leave, not come back and complain on the internet.

There's no way Valve would've intentionally leaked the code. If they REALLY wanted to do that, they would've released a bit of the unimportant bits of code (like the basic rendering engine, etc), and maybe a few map files. They sure as hell would NOT put ALL the code they had up to that point on the net, and they most certainly wouldn't release ANOTHER COMPANY'S code with it (Havok).

Oh, and didn't they delay the game AFTER the code was leaked? It wasn't made public that there was a leak until like early October, and HL2 was SUPPOSED to be launched on September 30th. If they wanted to fake a code leak, they should've done it at the start of September.

Interesting that they're raiding people's houses for even being allegedly LINKED to the hackers who stole it. Nice to see that law enforcement is taking this case very seriously.

We don't know what brought this about exactly but we do know that due process was fulfilled in obtaining the warrant. A judge had to have decided there was sufficient evidence to produce a warrant. Please don't spread crap like this around as it miscontrues many peoples already screwed up vision of the law and how it works.

I didn't mean that in a negative way, I simply stated that law enforcement isn't just shuffling this case away in a file cabinet and forgetting about it. I just think it's interesting that they're taking steps to track down who did it by whatever means neccisary. Obviously if there's evidence that a person has been colaborating with someone involved in illegal activities, teh government has full rights to take anything that they think may be related to it. Though wouldn't they be embarrassed if they only find porn on the computer...

No...but someone is jiggling the T3 line here and it is really ticking me off. Anyways Edge...I didn't mean to come after you it is just I have seen plenty of people complaining about how they went after this guy and it ticks me off. I mean you don't get a warrant without any evidence. Some judge thought there was enough and until that evidence is unsealed no one should be jumping to conclusions imho. Either way the guy is innocent until proven guilty.
