I downloaded it when it became available, but for various reasons I've only just got round to installing it.

My great gaming experience on my XP2000/512MB 2100/Ti4600 consists of a black screen which will change to a blue screen if I turn, and then back to a black screen if I keep turning.

I take it this isn't the way it's meant to be played.

Looking at the log file , i see that both NV38 & R360 use two sided stencil for shadwoing ... isnt that an NV35/38 only feature ? (a.k.a Ultra shadow)

The 'two sided stencil' is a small optimization available on all FX cards (I believe), it allows the rendering of front and back faces with stencil test in one pass rather than the traditional two passes. It turns out to be a relatively small improvement. Ultra Shadow is only available on the FX5900 and possibly FX5700 and is a clipping plane tweak to (possibly dramaticly) reduce stencil fill demands.

yes.. i have found many objects in places you cant get to. Groups of people in ditches, choppers hovering over hills, that drop plane thing but that table makes no sense at all ;p

If you havent found the people in the ditch, go to the far left inlet/cove of the island and go to the right(south) through the jungle (no path) before the water there will be a wall to the west, throw a grenade over it and you should hear people get hurt if you did it right. Or with the hacks, you can go around and come from behind, this is how i found it and i actually fell in the hole with the people and couldn't get out ;p

After spending 17 hrs dwnloading on my 64 K, I finally got it up and running. This demo is amazing, graphically. I also love how the trees sway in the wind and the fish swimming in the water. If you shoot a fish it floats up to the surface like it would in real life, awesome. The water is the best I've seen, must use PS 2.0 (I have a 9800SE). Lots of polys, and very good texture detail. The character models are also very detailed.

I haven't even cranked the detail to max yet, but it looks great, a definite bar raiser over Ut2k3. However, some of the graphics effects in Ut2k3 are better. I don't like the smoke in this FarCry demo.

Gamewise, it's cool but similar to Soldier of Fortune 2. I liked the dancing crosshair of the sniper rifle, that was cool. I'm sure the engine could be made much better gameplay wise either in the full game or some other developer that uses the engine. As it is it's pretty good.

Did anybody find the jeep parked around left of the 3rd enemy base on the shoreline? I took it for a spin, pretty cool. I also like the use of vehicles in the game, the boats and jeep are fully usable.

I also really like the physics engine after seeing a barrel roll down a hill. Crytek has put together a really fantastic engine.


Game runs ok with medium/high detail and very high environment detail on my system at 800x600. Using XP2400+ , KT333, 512 meg and 9800SE Cat 3.7.

Bugs: I noticed that switching the graphics settings after playing the game for a while resulted in some strange corruption and weird lines showing up. It's ok if you just start the game with the settings as is.

All in all, I found the demo very enjoyable and I'm going to be playing around with it for a while.

The real PC Gamer version of the second demo is available through Fileshack now. It's got the engine optimizations and the sounds for the MP5. Though it's a lot of fun, this demo seems even shorter than the first we had received, but they do a good job of making you want more...
