Fraps: Gameplay

2004-01-21 16:04:52 - FarCry
Frames: 20811 - Time: 464437ms - Avg: 44.809 - Min: 20 - Max: 91

Tried some stuff. Set Game settings AA to none (as oppose to Low) and bumped up the resolution to 1280x960. System is still running at 3.5Ghz and stock timmings on the GFFX 5200 Ultra: 325/650 (2x325). I'm loving this game big time! I have opted playing with higher resolution and no AA, rather than playing at 1024x768 with low AA.

Also tried very high detail and it crapped out at 16fps average:

2004-01-21 15:48:26 - FarCry
Frames: 8355 - Time: 515141ms - Avg: 16.218 - Min: 7 - Max: 30

Wish I had more ammo for the sniper rifle though. Being able to zoom in the killer, especially when you see the smoke trail off the rounds too!

That 5900 Non Ultra from BFG for $180 shipped is looking better and better now. Ofcourse, the last Highend AGP card from Nvidia is soon to ship... my goodness this is so damn painfull. If that 9800XT drops (doubtfull considering how long it took the 9700's) that would be another opt.

Peace,

If you're bored, you can use the fish for target practice.
I took a walk and found this little guy. And no, i didn't shoot it.

Too bad even though there were some bananas in one of the cages, the ATi chimp was yet to be found. I would have shot that if given the oppertunity.

Peace,

With the game set on very high details for all options, 1024x768, 4xAA/8xAF, I'm getting about 25 - 50 fps at the beach. The game dips into 15 - 20 fps in the thick jungle though. Next generation video cards are around the corner.

When I use noAA/8xAF, the game runs much better. About 35 - 60 fps on the beach, and 25-40 fps in the thick jungle. I don't know about the weird textures with AF since I don't really see any. The textures look fine to me.

Nice looking game though. The water is quite nice. And yes, I've been hunting fishes and birds for a bit.

Here are some fraps logs:

beginning beach scene: 1024x768, all options on very high, 8xAF

LOL I keep shooting the dead bodies. I liked the new bullet holes you could put in them. I'm sick I know but it was fun.

Yeah. I was able to push one of the dead bodies off a high cliff by filling it with bullet holes.

No? The rocks don't look weird with AA/AF? The ones at the beach.
Well, thats just typical. Guess we ATI owners just have to wait for Cat 4.2.

Nothing new though. We are kinda used to that by now. Most new games need some "fixing" these days to play along with ATI cards.

Liked it quite alot..

My weapon sound seemed to disapear if I used the jeep, or sometimes before then. With and without EAX turned on..

Controls felt kinda kludgey to me.. was running at 1024x768 medium detail, frame-rate felt fine. Obviously feels like I could do with more ram tho.. If they fix the sound problems, should be good.

you don't have to wait for anything. AF works fine with this game(no strange looking textures) with cat4.1. You just have to enable it the right way

You wouldn't mind telling me what the right way is?

IMO, the devs should try to optimize the game especially on the graphics for both ati and nvidia. I browse through ubi's forum and realize there are a few others with ati9800pro and gfx5950 having fps problems. Looking at their system spec, it should run smoothly even if AA/AF is turn on.

I do agree that gfx cards are facing DX9 performance issue. But not for the ati9800 family. Does anyone have any email addr to crytek?? Got to notify the devs before the actual game is release.

DX9 issues and the FX series? Oh please, you can see I get about a 45FPS average with the lowest end videocard in the entire FX line and that is at 1280x960! I also remember a whole assortment of "typical" misinformation secretaries. In fact, I was hearing how I was only gonna get 9FPS max in DX9 games too! What a crock of ****...

Peace,
