Hi @ll!
Long time ago I figured out how to configure my nvidia card to work with TwinView properly. Since then I had different nvidia cards and no problems at all. Yesterday I got a new 19" TFT Monitor which uses a resolution of 1280x1024 and replaces my old 15" TFT at a resolution of 1024x768. The TFT is used as the seconf Monitor. The First one is a 19" CRT. My Problem now ist, that I can't get the TFT to work at 1280x1024. All other resolutions are working. But at 1280x1024, 1280x1024 the TFT remains dark and the XF86 config Logfile says at 1280x1024 "no mode for this name" Is there a possibility to completely override the specifications? I tried the option NoDDC, but without a useable result. Thx in advance. When I am back home, I'll post the config and logfile! Greetings from Germany MM |

I believe I had a similar problem where my 15" TFT wouldn't work on resolutions of 800x600 and above. Tried all sorts of things, but wouldn't accept anything. In desperation I removed all modelines from my XF86config, and suddenly it worked like a charm.
My advise: if your monitors support DDC, remove all modelines from your XF86config, set the IgnoreEdid to "0" (zero) if you haven't done that already, and try then. Remember to make a backup copy of your config just in case! Question for the gurus: I have worked with Linux/XFree for quite some time, but never seen an XF86config without modelines. Does DDC make the modelines superfluous? |

I have a Sony TFT 17" and a Samsung TFT 15". In the Sony I had the same problem and the resolution ever was forced to 1280x960. With 1280x1024 blank screen, etc...
However, ONE TIME I have found a way to fix the resolution playing with the frequencies. Unfortunately my XConfig is missing and now ever I'm unable to have the Dual view. BTW, You have some configuration for the two monitors? |

Check the Horizontal and Vertical Sync rates for your specific monitor,
you can usually look them up at the manufacturer's website. |

The frequency are the same in the manual specifications.
My doubt is about how to configure two monitors. Any thought? |

Download the latest nvidia driver from:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._ia32_1.0-5328 the file should be called: NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5328-pkg1.run make a backup copy of your current XF86Config file Then get out of X windows by typing init 3 at the command line, then type sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5328-pkg1.run Next modify your /etc/X11/XF86Config file with the following (which is all in the readme file): If you already have an XF86Config file working with a different driver (such as the 'nv' or 'vesa' driver), then all you need to do is find the relevant Device section and replace the line: Driver "nv" (or Driver "vesa") with Driver "nvidia" In the Module section, make sure you have: Load "glx" You should also remove the following lines: Load "dri" Load "GLcore" Appendix I. XF86CONFIG TWINVIEW OPTIONS To enable TwinView, you must specify the following options in the Device section of your XF86Config file: Option "TwinView" Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "<hsync range(s)>" Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "<vrefresh range(s)>" Option "MetaModes" "<list of metamodes>" Option "TwinViewOrientation" "<relationship of head 1 to head 0>" either say "LeftOf" or "RightOf" So for example look at this: Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "Monitor Vendor" ModelName "MX70" DisplaySize 320 240 HorizSync 30.0 - 70.0 VertRefresh 47.0 - 120.0 Option "dpms" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Videocard0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "Videocard vendor" BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX (generic)" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Videocard0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubSection Subsection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" Option "TwinView" Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "31-61" Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "47-75" Option "MetaModes" "1280x1024,1280x1024; 1024x768,1024x768"" Option "TwinViewOrientation" "RightOf" EndSubSection EndSection Section "DRI" Group "video" Mode 0660 EndSection Save your file then restart X - hope this helps |
