Yeah, I turned off my virtual memory and I can play UT2K3 til the cows come home. Until it gets to the Slaughterhouse map. It crashes to the desktop EVERY time. I have yet to see what this map looks like.

I suppose I could turn my VM back on, but why would I want to do that when the rest runs so great?

Yeah, right after I wrote the above post, I tried a reboot to make sure. That didn't work. I then tried the .exe from the demo (I had read through the posts first), and that works. I just hope the demo .exe works with the upcoming patches. The failing anti-piracy stuff is annoying when it doesn't work correctly.

I also didn't like how the install procedure forced an install of DirectX. There should be an option for installing that. I hate it when programs force the install of 3rd party software. I know what version of software my machine has. That decision should not be made for me.

you mean on the 3rd cd? its not required, when it ask for the 3rd, just say no. it won't install dx8.1 or the other map making features, and it'll finish install just fine. and if you want, you can just stick in the 3rd and install maya and stuff manually.

Well, I did some looking around the forums at unrealtornament2003.com and found that many people are having this problem. There is a no-cd crack available that works fine for me. I downloaded it here, http://files.cwuniverse.com/

It seems that the problem may in fact be due to the cd check (anti-piracy agenda) that is being used.

Any ideas?

Unclock your GPU. When I o/c my card I get in-game 10 sec freezes. That *might* be your problem.

There is a leaked beta patch out. I would never get near leaked stuff, but some of you might. Go to the Ina community forums and check it out. Word is, the patch is supposed to fix some issues with the copy protection and speeds up map loading. As for as performance goes, no word, at least as of yet. . .

I already posted this inthe Linux thread but I also wanted to post it in the Games thread couze I thinkis interesting Anyways her it goes:

I get 15 to 20 FPS more in Linux than in Win XP. and plus in Linux I have everything set to highest setting at 1024x768 and in Win XP I have only up to High at 1024x768. If I set everything to highest in winxp the freame rate can go down to 24FPS on few places.

My system is Athlon XP 2100, 512MB PC 2700, geForce 4 ti 4600.

Plus I play with AA set to 2 x in both Linux and Win XP.

It seems that Win XP really craps up the game, couze is the same code in both OSs and it seems that in Linux the same code just performs better.

I have to buy the full game.
I must have played on BR-anubis a few hundred times now, it's starting to get a bit boring
