Arrow UT2004 demo feedback thread

UT2004 Demo to be released VERY soon, Within 1 week.

hopefully.

Read about it here.

Weekend Demo Release Unlikely
by RaptoR at 12:00 AM EST (Unreal Tournament 2004) [ 39 Comments ] #4801
Atari's Kyle 'Pezman' Peschel hopped into #UT on the EnterTheGame IRC network on Wednesday evening, and answered a couple of demo-related questions, confirming that the UT2004 demo won't appear this Friday as some had hoped.

«Catzenjaeger» friday pez?
«Pezman[ATARI]» no
«Pezman[ATARI]» probably further out than that

Later, Epic's Joe 'DrSiN' Wilcox posted on the official forums stating that he was fairly certain that the demo would not be making an appearence this weekend.

StarWars: yeh, i confirmation would be nice, if theres no demo this weekend i might work on my real life social skills

DrSiN: I would say it's fairly safe to think it's ok to get out and work on your social skills or take a relaxing weekend before the Chaos...

That leaves Monday 9th to Thursday 12th as far as possible demo dates go. Hone your psychic skills again and vote in our updated BU Demo Poll, telling us when you think the demo will arrive.
More info here.

On release we will be distributing the demo primarily through BitTorrent* for users of broadband and over. This will not be inconvenient if you install a client. Several options are below. This method is unsuitable for modem users, and a direct download link will be available capped at ISDN speed.
So Bittorrent Ehh.

GET YOU TRIGGER FINGERS READY!!!

I hope that the addition of vehicles make this one a winner. After seeing what UTXMP can do with them, I must say I have lofty expectations.

Great, the game isn't even out and I'm already getting shafted. Oh well, I'll just grab a direct download once it's availible, or get it from a friend. Though I'm really not expecting to be that impressed, I didn't like UT2003 much. Though Unreal 2 XMP was suprisingly fun, so I'll have to see.

Why?

If you use a modem, that should be more than enough.

Bit torrent release should be quite good. On a well seeded file I can max my 1Mbit connection easily.

Better than waiting for hours on WaitPlanet anyway!

Once upon a time, Fileplanet was actually decent for downloading. Now it just blows.

I must say that I too am a little ticked off about it being released primarily through BT. Not everyone has access to BT easily and in these cases a direct download is much much easier. In my case BT has been lumped in with P2P sharing on the PacketShaper. Basically you can't even use BT as the speeds you get are next to none (we're talking 1-2 k/s if that). I am hoping that someone off campus will grab it quickly and throw it on the campus DC hub though (Nothing like 5-6MB/s transfers from across campus). If this doesn't happen though I will be penalized speed wise because of their decision. Guess I will just have to hope and pray that I can get my hands on it through alternative channels.

No BT for me at school, but we do have a lovely DC hub like you mentioned. I suppose that's my only option in this case.

Then just drop out.

Get a job, a one room cramped apartment, and dsl. Everything in life is so simple when it's not yourself that you're talking to.

What the hell are you talking about? I'm merely commenting on the fact that releasing a demo across a torrent isn't the best way to get it distributed, that's all.

Seriously, what is your problem.

I dunno I think its quite good. I remember when the last Unreal Tournament demo got released, servers all over the net got hammered soo hard it was almost impossible to get hold of it. I ended up paying fileplanet just to download it quick before the weekend was out.

Yeah, IF they make it availible at the same time as the torrent and IF it doesn't get overloaded with requests (even at ISDN speed, how long do you think it will take for servers to be overloaded?). Not to mention at ISDN speed, that means it's going to take other people a much longer time to finish their downloads, and that leads to more people downloading it at once, which may lead to more unstable servers. I wonder how much effort they're even putting into the direct download servers. Oh well, I'll probably have to grab it from a friend at the next lan anyway.
