I just updated my card to a xtasy gf4 ti4200. The drivers that came in the box wouldnt load at all (mising file). So i pulled the nvidia 40.71 drivers (WindowsME) and it worked very smoothly (thanks to nvidia for the ***.exe drivers update routine).

I dont have a benchmarking scheme except for the old eye-ball. To me, the 40.71 drivers appear to be a little sharper than the 40.72 set. Altho both worked well, i'll wait for the final release of the 40.72.

Default general issues and opengl performance solution.

I previously had issues with opengl in the 40.XX problems, I'd like to let you all know how I fixed it. Simple, don't check the box that says "Clamp textures " or something like that. It slows down my GF2 Ti. As for other issues with the drivers like weird contro panel stuff happening, well just remove your current installation, make sure you clear the temporary directory that the installer extracts the drivers to. I did that and the refresh rate panel came back for me. I'm thinking that might help quite a few of you. Then again maybe not. No harm trying though.

WHY would ANYONE install the detonator 4's on a GF2?

It's madness. Crazy. People don't seem to listen to understand.

Anyone that does install them on the GF2 series of cars is guarenteed crap.

The correct question would be why can't they? Just because you think they are crap doesn't mean someone like me can't try to use it to fix compatibility with some games, maybe get a small boost in performance? The madness comes from people like you NickSpolec, this thread is for feedback on the driver itself, as opposed calling people who install the driver on a Gf2Ti a nutcrack. There is probably another forum or thread for that. The driver does support all Geforce series of card, regardless of whatever you think.

Would you (or anyone) know what software these two files are associated with?
NCPLDAEMON
NWIZ
Are they something to do with nvidia drivers?
I really have no idea where they came from but they have been there since i was running a gf2 (or before).

thanks,
savagkc

I installed it on my old gf2mx just because, while it may not do anything for its 3d, it sure seemed faster outside of games

actually he's right. ever since the 20.xx series, drivers have decreased performance when used with gf2 cards.

although that might not be true for new games as nvidia optimizes for them. my friend with a gf2mx said the latest beta drivers increased his UT2003 scores.

actually that makes sense, because nvidia optimized the det 40 for ut2k3, obviously because it is the game to be played now. i bet even a gf4 would perform better in dx7 games using dets older than the 40 series.

Go to add remove programs, remove the Nvidia drivers. That should do it. Make sure that you let the installer install files into a clean directory. I think I had a mix up of drivers in there, that's why I didn't have the refresh rate panel in the first place. All is working now.
