Exclamation X crash with 5336 and kernel 2.6.3

Hi, I'm experiencing a problem where X crashes during nvidia initialization. I'm using gentoo with kernel 2.6.3 and nvidia kernel 5336.

My kernel is kompiled without agpgart, and without APIC up support. I have also tried disabeling acpi.

My graphics card is a Abit Siluro FX5200:
$ cat /proc/driver/nvidia/cards/0 (~)
Model: GeForce FX 5200
IRQ: 5
Video BIOS:
Card Type: AGP

My motherboard is a Abit NF7-S v2.0 nforce2 with an AMD XP 3000+.

I'd suggest making sure AGPART is compiled in. Whenever I tell XFree86 to use NvAGP it complains on boot that it can't find it and so falls back to AGPART.

One thing to keep in mind with Linux 2.6 AGPGART is that agpgart.ko lacks backend functionality, it relies on vendor specific backend modules (intel-agp.ko, nvidia-agp.ko, ...) to drive actual hardware. The
NVIDIA driver must assume that modprobe has been configured such that the appropriate backend module is loaded whenever agpgart.ko is requested.

I have tried with agpgart too. But I thought that it whould be more safe to try to get it running with agp disabled at first (Option "NvAGP" "0" in XF86Config).

I just enabled nvagp=3 with the 2.6.3 and my fps in UT2003 doubled over what Windows was doing, same settings, same point so any idea what that could be.

Sorry to highjack the thread.

I had exactly the same problem after upgrading from 2.6.2 to 2.6.3. The computer tries to load X, video attempts to initialize 4-5 times, then the screen goes completely blank - can't even get console. It's not frozen, though; I can still tell it to reboot.

Standard XFree 4.2 drivers ("nv") work, and the nvidia drivers still work with 2.4.25, which I'm using at the moment.

GF2MX-200 video, Asus A7N8X-X motherboard, running Debian Sarge, latest official video drivers, fast writes enabled.
