I have Red Hat 7.2 on a Pentium III 866 machine with a geForce 3. In the Nvidia Linux driver download page there is a ..GLX.. file for i386 (NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-3123.i386.rpm) but not for i686.
Will the ..GLX.. file for i386 work with the ..kernel.. file for i686 (NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-3123.rh72up.i686.rpm)? And if not, then, of course, why would there be a ..kernel.. i686 file and no ..GLX.. i686 file? But, then again, is i686 the correct file for a Pentium III machine? Thanks for any enlightenment, bennie ![]() (oops, I don't know what that GeForce 2 thing is under my name) |

I think I found my own answer in the PDF readme file.
"The NVIDIA_GLX RPM, however, is not dependent upon the kernel version, and..." ok then. ![]() |

For anyone intersted, the ...GLX...i386.. file did not work with the ...kernel...i386.. file on my Pentium III machine. I HAD to use the ...kernel..i686.. file. So, when the nVidia download web page says:
. STEP 3: Download the Driver You must download 2 files: a GLX driver file and a kernel driver file. The version of these files must match. . they are apparently only talking about matching the ...1.0-3123... part and not the i_86 part. regards... |
