Hmm. I’ve been getting this message right after POST ever since a botched shutdown a week ago:
Invalid BOOT.INI Booting from C:\Windows\ Should I be panicking right now? After that message, WinXP boots up just fine. Any insight would be helpfull. Like I said, this happened after the machine froze when told to shut down.

Not if windows starts up okay after that.
I would go into your system properties (control panel/system) and click the advanced tab and then click the button for the startup and recovery settings. You should see a section at the top that says System Startup with some stuff in it and a button that says edit. If you click the edit button it will bring up the boot.ini file in notepad and it should look something like this: Quote:

I see Startup and Recovery, and when I click on Settings, it says:
The C:\boot.ini file can not be opened. Operating System and Timeout settings can not be changed. I can get to the next screen, and if i click edit, it says Boot.ini file not found, and it will let me create a new one.

If it will let you create a new one, then do it. Just make a text file and put the text I posted in it and then save it and rename it to Boot.ini
note: the line: default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S should all be on one line....I'm not sure why it word-wraps the S in Windows.
