Default Cannot load X (KDE) after driver install

I have tried twice now and I'm a complete noob with linux. But i am running Mandrake 9.2 and have successfully installed the drivers and edited the x86 file or whatever it is from nv to nvidia and all of that jazz. When I reboot, it almost finishes loading then flashes 4 times and leaves me to login in what looks like the console and i cannot get a gui.

Again, I am a noob, sorry if I am asking something stupid!

Read your error messages. Is your nvidia kernel module loaded? lsmod will tell you. Sometimes I have to modprobe nvidia or put it in /etc/modules.

My advice remains the same.... after I upgrade kernels I often forget the nVidia driver and X flashes on load, but not 4 times.

Well, I don't want to do it unless i can be able to get to this forum and such...in other words, i don't know linux well enough to navigate without X running.

I need KDE for the most part....at least to get to this forum once my x messes up with nvidia's drivers....
