Flickering DVI?

OK here's the situation, swapped to Slackware 9.1 a few days ago, built myself a 2.6.3 kernel. All seems to be working fine after reboot BUT every so often (it isn't very often at all, took 3 hrs to do it this morning) the DVI output blinks off then on. The time it's off can be anything between 1 and 10 seconds, but usually after it starts it doesn't stop for a while (i.e. does it repeatedly). The screen is a Hercules Prophetview 920 Pro DVI and the card is a XFX FX5600 128mb. It happens with both the 4620 (minion.de) drivers and the latest Nvidia drivers (in fact it seems to happen more with the latest Nvidias) It did NOT happen in Fedora, nor does it appear to happen in Windows 2000 (which is on the dual boot). It is not window manager dependent, and the RGB output doesn't appear to get the problem either.

Any ideas?

UPDATE: The XFree86 log looks ok appart from a large amount of GetModeLine entries, infact the number roughly corresponds with the number of times my screen has gone weird this session

Do you have a copy of the XF86Config that you used under fedora?
If so load it up...
