hgb,

I think buildmeister is a user name. I think buildmeister is also a user group name.
I guess it used internally by rpm.
I install driver as root in text mode not in XFree86
Terminal.

I think the error is :
>Bad exit status for /var/tmp......
but not buildmeister.
The message before error message is your hint.

I haven't try make NVIDIA_kernel.tar.gz
Sorry about that.

Keung

Default 4091 Drivers

I'm using the last drivers 3123. I tried 4091 drivers on SuSE 8.1, Redhat 7.3 and MDK 8.2 and all three times i got FU**ED.
So I would stick to the the last release for now.
I'M ACTUALLY SCARED TO EVEN TRY ON MY NEW RH8 SETUP. I don't feel like rebuilding my machine again.
I'm getting 180-220fps on UT (not ut2003) with the last ones so , good for now. On UT2003 i get 8-120, I don't understand why UT2003 is so brutal. I have a geforce4 Ti4200 with 128meg DDR and it still runs pretty much like POOP.

I can email my build NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-4191.i386.rpm (567.8K bytes) for kernel-2.4.18-19.8.0 to you.

Please let me know your email address.

Default 4091 Build

OK, I just decided to get both src.rpm files and it worked after finally using rpmbuild -rebuild xxx.src.rpm
and then installing
=====================================
http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86_4...0-4191.src.rpm
rpm -ivh NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-i386.rpm --force --nodeps

and
http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86_4...0-4191.src.rpm
rpm -ivh NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-i386.rpm --force --nodeps
=======================================
I'm getting anywhere from 40-150fps on ut2003 now. (using both src.rpm files)
AthlonXP1800
geforce4 Ti 4200 128DDR

My only complaint so far with RH8 is, No Movie and mp3 support until you insall it

Hi,

I found that "rpmbuild --rebuild --target i686 NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-4191.src.rpm" build NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-4191.i686.rpm run much faster than NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-4191.i386.rpm on my PIII 450 with nvidia MX 440.

I also "rpmbuild --rebuild --target i686 NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-4191.src.rpm" but speed impoved not notice.

RUSTY, I email you the i686.rpm

Keung

Afternoon all,
Im just trying to get my Geforce 256 running properly on RH8. Ive got all the files i need but i need to install the Kernel Development Package. When i run Package manager and select the Kernel Dev Package it shows up that im missing a file krb5-libs-1.2.5-6.i386.rpm . Ive found this package on the cd ok but, how do i either make the package manager look to the cd or put the package where the package manager can see it?

Default hiya baby!!!!

yea, now i can install the package..., sorry but i dont understand in the first days for what i need the source of the kernel..

you need the source, i think all the instructions are right, but need explain that you need the source , for build custom devices. or some like that.. drivers or your personal OS, ok, i think almost all.. maybe have the same problem, first you need execute the command for know your.. profile..
i dont remeber all commands but are in the readme. like cat /usr/.. or XFree86 --version.. if you need compile the kernel (like me) you need the source of your actual kernel and if you have. proceed to install, thanks keung for the help. and thx all for readme

almost .. a finall word.. i think.. for finall user comunity.. Linux are a lot far for a real challenge in the world vs MS Win, need.. more short howto and whyto , but its nice.

cya, and have nice days in this year,.. and the next years.

thx alot.

later i try the i686 thx for the tip.

Default newbie alert!!

Hello everyone.

I'm slowly but surely making the migration from windows to Linux. I've tried installing the drivers, but to no avail...

I DL the kernel source file and try to use the "rpmbuild" command, but it doesn't exist. Can anyone tell me how to enable this command?

Tks.

Default You need a package for the rpmbuild command

You need the rpm-build package.
:-) Install it off the CD, or wherever you got all the other RedHat 8.0 packages.

Compared to Windows, the driver installs on Linux are very raw. Linux is pretty much designed to have all the drivers ship with the kernel, and nVidia, because they have closed-source drivers (even for their motherboard, which is even more stupid and ridiculous than for their video card) break that system, and so are a big pain.

I wouldn't bother with the RPMs really, never had much luck with them. Use the source tarballs instead and follow the direcitons. It worked very well for me, no problems with Redhat 8.0 at all.
