Default scripts/file2alias.c errors

I'm running Debian with linux 2.6.3 and while trying to compile NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg1.run it fails because of some error in file2alias.c.

any ideas?

Default Debian sid 2.6.3

Hi,

this took me a while, doubtless there are easier ways but this is the way I did:

download kernel-sources-2.6.3

cd /usr/src/kernel-sources-2.6.3
and then make menuconfig (might need libncurses5-dev)

We then select "Load alternative config file" and enter /boot/config-2.6.3-1-686 (or whatever your kernel version is)
save this then exit.

Now type 'make scripts' which will compile this scripts file. Then copy the resulting contents to /usr/src/kernel-headers-2.6.3-1-686/scripts (or whereever for you) then run the nvidia-installer again.

Cheers,

Scott

I get the exact same error..
Tried doing what you said saf, but it seems like the problem lies in compiling the scripts..
Anybody with an idea of what to do?

I'm getting the exact same problem on Debian unstable running 2.6.3. I was able to get 5336 working under 2.6.2 just fine a while ago, now it simply won't compile. I'm guessing there's some funkiness going on with the latest copy of GCC, but someone has to have a better clue as to what's going on...

Maybe it is a GCC issue. Anyway, saf104's suggestions worked for me :-) "apt-get install kernel-sources-2.6.3" gave me a .tar.bz2 file that I had to figure out how to unpack (bunzip2, then tar), and I did need libcurses5-dev. Unfortunately I'm not at the machine so I can't check my gcc version. I know I did a dist-upgrade Tuesday night (9 Mar 04).
