Default Doom 3 : Not 'till the end of the year.

Some of this article has already been translated for me, and it states that Doom 3 will not be released 'till the end of the year.

http://doom3.ingame.de/articles/pics...ew_carmack.jpg

If we could get a good translation of this, it would be great.

Quick and rough translation:

first Q is about NV vs ATI and a little history
A)
started with gf256... D3 requires at least a gf3 ... ps2.0 will look better than ps1.1 ... a min CPU of 2.5ghz should be enough for physics and shadow calculations. Speed differences between ATI 9500+ and FX are negligable unless the FX boards run in FP32 mode.

the second question is about it's releasedate and if it'll contain a MP mode.

A)
Releasedate is still unknown. they're still on scedule but the game is done when it's done. When development is complete there's still the final testingphase to make sure the final retail version isn;t filled with bugs ..blahblahblah.. it is possible this could take till halfway or even the end of the year.
The final 4-cd version will definatly contain a MP mode.

Sheesh, at this rate we'll be seeing Duke Nukem Forever before Doom 3 and HL2. But a min. CPU of 2.5 ghz? Come on, they've got to be more efficient than that. Even DX:IW doesn't require a CPU THAT high.

Does DeusX build volume silhouettes for every object in the scene * every light in the scene, on the cpu?

Its been known for a long time that D3 will need a good cpu as well as a good gpu.

They're also doing some pretty heavy realtime audio crunching too, for audio occlusion etc..

Nutty, an expert on these things so as you are developer guy I have to ask you.

Isn't the DoomIII engine also gonna include some form of early Z testing or something like occlusion testing for the graphics too?

Doom 4 renders the scene to the z-buffer first ( lights and textures disabled )

The advantage = zero overdraw when rendering the final scene to the colorbuffer
