Oooh err missus!
hehehe I was on about the explanation given by mr Toaster pertaining to the Doom 3 or 4 engine JC once remarked about it but I have forgoten about it. So I was asking merely for a renewed explanation. Nothing sinister!!!!

Well some things have to be that way, in the gamingworld it's an unwritten law Duke4Ever & Doom3 will always be vaporware. I think they only ment to be discussed when in conjuction of new GPU's and nothing more, just legends

You forgot HL2!!

But JC has always delivered. His engine is ambitious and probably worth the *extra* time between its launch to have GPUs that can actually work with it. I mean, able to handle it. Same for HL2

Yeah, Hl2 is even funier, I was ready for 30 sept and then it "vanished"

I want those games so badly. I wonder many times on which gfx card I would play Doom3 when it will be released. First I thought it would be my Radeon 9800, but now I don't know if its gonna be a NV40 or R420 or beyond

I think I don't have to worry about performance anymore

They give the impression that they're playing cat and mouse, just waiting for the other one to make an announcement first and give an estimated release date. Is this the new trend? Trying to avoid releasing the heavyweights at the same time? Anyhow, we'll see whether we get new cards with the actual games inside or vouchers again As for DNF, they've said '04 is probably a no-no and that '05 will be more realistic. So it's 3005 then, finally a rock solid date

Doom 3 will probably be here on time. Carmack only said that it _could_ take longer if he discovers some last minute nasty bugs Just covering his own ass in case it doesn;t work out as planned.

Okay, this "Summer or Later" thing came from that German mag, along with saying 2.5Ghz cpu minimum, and Gf3 minimum.

PlanetDoom contacted id, to verify this was correct;

Quote:
The german magazine PCGames Hardware has a quick Q&A with John Carmack in their latest issue. It’s very short, but there are a lot of new and unbelievable information.
A video card with at least 128MB RAM and Pixel Shader 1.1 support is required for DOOM 3.
A 2.5GHz CPU should be enough for the stencil shadows and physics calculations.
The testing phase might last till summer or even later this year.
DOOM 3 will be released on 4 CDs.
Last time we heard about the target system for DOOM 3 it was just a PC with a GeForce 3 class video card, but according to that Q&A it will be the minimum. Maybe we will find out more during the upcoming GDC.

Update: After reading this information, we asked id software for confirmation and they have replied saying that the information that appeared in the article is totally false and a fabrication on the magazine's part.

So I still maintain April-ish...

Yea I figured that. ID is not Valve and I do think they'll deliver, especially for Nvidia
