Thumbs down EB-Games In The "Stolen Goods" Doghouse!

Imagine how you'd feel if you came home one day to find your video game consoles (and games) stolen, with no leads. Then, two days later, you discover that a young punk stole them and sold them at an EB Games store for money to pay his rent. He admits the crime, gives a written confession, and off you trot to EBGames to recover your falsely-sold merchandise, right?

Wrong ...

Corporate beancounters strike "the little man" (in this case, a woman) again!!

Kudo's to Joel Hruska (Sudhian) for stumbling on this one!

Hrm...I'm gonna talk to my guys up here next time I see them, get their reaction and so forth. If I get the same kind of crap spewed from them that this woman apparently got, I will stop patronizing them.

I worked in the video game industry for a private store and we had a situation just like this pop up. A woman came in with a list of everything that was stolen from her, an N64, a bunch of games (most of which were Christmas presents which is how she had the list), controllers, etc. This was about 3 weeks after Christmas and the kids who robbed her house had brought them into the store. We took the trade in along with the kids phone number, address, and names, and gave them the store credit. They left without buying anything, and the woman came in about a half hour later telling us about the stuff that was stolen. We told her we had it and were more than happy to return her things to her along with contacting the police with the information about the kids.

It's sad that EB would go through so much trouble NOT to help this poor woman. It wouldn't hurt them at all to replace what they sold with used or new equipment and return everything to her. I just cancelled my preorder with them and looks like I'll find someplace else to do my shopping.

But, since this is America, though they did break state law, they're corporate lawyers will have an easy time getting them off the hook with some sort of legal liability thing, and eventually, I'm sure the whole issue will disappear.

I'm sure the good press that helping her would have given them would more than payoff the "debts" they'd incur by returning her items as well.

Exactly. We're talking about $87 here, chump change in the grand scheme of things.

When I last went to EB, I turned in a GBA game for some store credit. I hadn't been able to find the box, so the guy behind the counter had me fill out an address/phone number card and filed it with the receipt and all the info from the sale. I asked him why, and he said that they had to get the info for all people who turn in used games or systems, because if the police come looking for me and confiscate any stolen material (in conformity with Illinois state law), they want my address and phone number so their lawyers could get a hold of me and, I assume, get their recompense.

The manager at that EB should get canned, along with the accomplice register biscuits. And the upper brass at EB need a . I'll still go to the EB in town, because I like the people who run it (and it's a long shot better than Gamestop). But this is stupidity.

Good grief that just pisses me off....

I used to shop there for games all the time, but I will not be setting foot in their stores again. I am going to pass this on to every single game I know.

I was the same until about a year ago, then i began to wonder why i was paying more for a loyalty scheme that saved me at best £2 a quater. When i can save £10 by buying online.
