I left the IRQ settings in bios at default, which is auto assign, and ACPI is enabled.

Sonofa... Looks like a driver issue.

Damnit ATI. I might have to roll back now. I will try a few other things first.

First significant issue I've had w/an ATI driver. Oh well...

I'll turn VPU recover off and turn fastwrites off. If that doesn't help, I'll try the new Catalyst 4.3. If that still doesn't fixit, it's time to roll back to 3.10.

Damnit damnit damnit!

3dmark2001 didn't make it. It froze hard. Looks like my problems might be worse than just CoD and UT2004.

I'm upgrading my catalyst driver to the one that came out today. Then I'll see what happens. It's possible my 9700pro might be getting flakey on me since the system passes SETI and memtest diagnostic runs.

Turns out this problem is fixed by installing Catalyst 3.10. I am not the only one with this issue according to the forums @ rage3d. Most users having problems are running Catalyst 4.x (including the 4.3 in my case) and R300 based cards.

I installed 3.10 and my hard lockups have gone away. Lame ATI.

My 9700 Pro AIW card works great with the 4.2 cats. They work so damn well in fact that I am hesitant about upgrading to 4.3. No lock ups here.

It's quite obvious I'm not the only one having this problem. You just happen to be one of the lucky ones.

Rolling back to Cat 3.10 *clearly* fixed the problem for me. I couldn't go 10 minutes without a hard lockup in CoD with Cat 4.x. Roll back to Cat 3.10 and it runs fine for hours. Night and day difference.

It isn't just my system.
