Digital sound from nForce2

What am I missing here?

I get analog sound from my setup, why can't I get sound out of my digital port?

Abit NF7-S mobo
Mandrake 9.2
Kernel 2.4.22
ALSA 1.03, load fine at startup, sounds great in analog mode/hookup

I have a few odd things going on.... first, my asound file doesn't look anything like what I've seen after browsing about a bit on these forums. The proper device pcmC0D2p is in my dev/snd folder.

Second, when I push this command in the terminal aplay -D hw:0,2 /usr/share/sounds/KDE_Startup.wav

I get this reply

But no sound comes out of my reciever. I don't have anything muted in alsamixer, and my reciever does report a PCM input when I plug in the fiber cable.

What am I missing/doing wrong?
