Default Broken console after starting X

I'm having troubles with my Nvidia card.

If I start my Linux in text mode, the console opens perfectly.
When the window manager starts and I try to open a console, the fonts
are splodged, huge and completely unreadable.

What's fun is that when KDM starts and I choose "Console login",
is comes right.

I tryed to deal with AGPGART and Nvidia AGP but no change was seen.

The problem appeared with a Conectiva 9.0, customized 2.4.24 kernel.
The original 2.4.21 kernel didn't work with Nvidia's driver (don't know why).
I have installed now Mandrake 10.0 RC1, 2.6.2 kernel and the same happens.

I'm not having very smart ideas on how to fix it, can anybody help me?

My hardware configuration is:

Athlon XP 2000+
512 MB RAM DDR-333
NVidia Geforce 2, 64MB (MX-400)
