Hard to say so far. I haven't noticed much difference in performance between my XT and the 9700pro. But, I've only had a chance to play just FC so far and nothing else. It was already running smoothly w/the 9700pro @ 1Kx768, which is what I'm running the game @ now.

To be honest... The XT was a compulsive purchase and I am thinking I should probably take it back. The 9700pro is not much slower. In the end, I'll probably end up debating it for a few more days and keeping it though. I always do.

I would turn off EAX all together. It helped a great deal for me. I put sound quality low.

DUDE take it back. Next month the new cards are due out (we hope). There is not real difference between the 9800XT and the 9700pro in games today. Save your money. Some here will tell you the 9800XT is blah blah blah much faster but in real game play (as you fund out) they are almost the same.

I know I know... The rational thing to do would be to remove it and take it back to the store right away. Fact is, the 9700pro is still an awesome card and performs literally just short of XT speed already. And it's been out for how long? Shows you how incremental the R350/R360 really are. I am disappointed that all I got for my $500 is a measly 10% performance boost (at best) and a voucher for HL2 which isn't even out yet.

But, being a speed freak like all of us here it's hard to part with something that makes it go faster even if it is just another ten percent. I'm still debating...

Has anybody had the problem that at the end of the Freighter level, you look back, and see... all these crates reflected in the water, and the helicopter that I shot down, but no freighter!! This is with water on Ultra High, and everything is reflected but the actual freighter, making for some weird visuals, seeing dead people and crates, and guns all reflected as though they're floating 50 feet up in the air.I forgot to take a screen shot, but I might go back to a checkpoint and see if I can, to show y'all what I'm talking about. Other than that, Ultra High water is incredible. And that's on a ti4600, and using PS1.1, and its amazing, and looks just like the PS2.0 shaders(probably runs slower though)

On another point, what's the AI like at the Realistic setting? I'm playing the first time through on Challenging, and it is really good, and I don't want to start another game.

And listening to the mercs with the binoculars, and listening to their threats is really funny. "It's time for an ass whoopin'"

What!? what I say? It is true. There is no need for a person who has a 9700pro to upgrade to a 9800XT, except as Rip admitted, you want the latest and greatest.
